Homework serves to reinforce and strengthen skills previously taught in class. It provides a wonderful opportunity to spend some "one on one" time with your child and provides valuable insight as to their progress. It affords them a chance to "shine" and show you what they are learning.
Homework is assigned nightly, Monday through Thursday with few exceptions. The most important component in our homework is reading. Students are expected to read a minimum of 20 minutes each night. The more time a child spends reading, the better the reader they will become. Math is assigned every homework night as well. Additional homework activities vary and may include spelling, fluency, vocabulary, grammar, math, science and social studies.
Homework is to be returned complete the following day in the homework folder provided. Reading time is to be logged on the reading calendar each night. Extra evenings spent reading such as on the weekends will go towards extra credit.
Remember, homework is a review of concepts already taught in class, and even if it appears "easy" its purpose is to serve as reinforcement.
It is expected that homework will be corrected by the parents/guardians and any errors will be reviewed and corrected. This provides immediate feedback to the child and reinforces the learning process. Please inital all homework pages so that I know you have corrected them. I check all work for neatness, accuracy and to see that it is complete. In class, children work towards completing a homework towards class dojo points.
